more incomplete notes on Orlando street name history


It is important to note that dates are not always provided on the earliest plats.

The following plats laid out early Orlando:
  • C/61 "Original Town of Orlando", resurveyed 1881, filed July 5, 1881
    • Square of exactly 4 acres, with the courthouse (where the park in front of the Orange County Regional History Center is now) in the center of a square of streets - Central, Court, Main (Magnolia), and Oak (now Wall), flanked by 12 1/6 or 1/4 acre lots
  • C/68 "Jacob Summerlin's Addition to the Town of Orlando", surveyed 1875, resurveyed 1880, filed October 22, 1881
    • Most of the land now bounded by South, Palmetto, Robinson, and Summerlin, including Lake Eola
  • C/62, C/63 "Robert R. Reid's Addition to Orlando", surveyed August 1880
    • Most of the land now bounded by Robinson, Palmetto, and South, east of the railroad
  • C/66 "James B. Parramore's Addition to the Town of Orlando", surveyed May 1882, filed December 28, 1882
    • Much of the land now bounded by Robinson, Division, South, and Parramore
  • C/67 "F.T. Poynter's Addition to the Town of Orlando", surveyed May 1882, filed 1882
    • All of the land now bounded by Palmer, Summerlin, South, and Lake
  • C/64 "James M. Willcox' Addition to the Town of Orlando", surveyed February 1883, filed February 28, 1883
    • Much of the land now bounded by Colonial, Magnolia, Robinson, and Division
  • C/72 "W.A. Shelby's Addition to Orlando", surveyed 1883
    • Much of the land now bounded by Robinson, Fern Creek, Amelia, and Summerlin
  • C/70 "J.J. Merrill's Addition to Orlando", filed November 12, 1883
    • Much of the land now bounded by Central, Division, and Robinson, west of the railroad
  • A/26 "J.P. Hughey's Addition to Orlando", filed 1883?
    • Much of the land now bounded by Division, South, Garland, and America
  • C/70 "Dr. R.A. Miller's Addition to the Town of Orlando", filed January 22, 1884
    • Much of the land now bounded by Colonial, Magnolia, and Marks, east of the railroad (plus a triangular lot west of it)
  • C/71 "De Laney's Addition to the Town of Orlando", filed March 13, 1884
    • One single block, now bounded by Pine, Division, Church, and Chatham
  • C/73 "T.J. Dempsey's 2nd Addition to Orlando", filed May 28, 1884
    • Much of the land now bounded by Lake, South, and Palmetto, north of the center of Lake Lucerne
  • C/71 "Kirkwood & Gordon's Addition to Orlando", filed November 10, 1884
    • All of the land now bounded by Gore, Kuhl, and America, east of the railroad
  • C/69 "G. Taylor's Addition to Orlando", filed July 20, 1889
    • All of the land now bounded by Robinson, Palmetto, and Livingston, east of the railroad
